Our Hosting Technology

Platform
We use Dell servers in our web hosting platform and all data is stored in network disk arrays. Data is automatically synchronised between the arrays so that in the event of an array failing the remaining array continues to serve data to the servers with no downtime. Each array is also backed up each night to a separate backup cluster which is then written to tape and stored offsite.

Data centre
We utilise uninterruptable power supplies and an n+1 generator setup to ensure constant and clean energy to our infrastructure. The data centre is protected by fire suppression, monitored by CCTV both externally and internally, has 24x7x365 onsite security and the building is surrounded by an 8ft perimeter fence.

Security
We are automatically informed of new security patches via our vendor. Patches are applied within 24 hours. Our own platform is scanned each month for application vulnerabilities and we use a network scanner to identify weaknesses in our network.

Webmail	-			We offer one of the most powerful and flexible WebMail systems to all our customers. Features include: Folder Support You can create as many folders as you need to easily store and organise your mail. Enhanced Calendar This handy feature allows you to manage appointments (tasks) on a quarterly, annual, or daily basis. Outlook -to-Webmail Sync Microsoft Outlook can be synchronised with your Webmail account so that contacts and scheduler data can be shared between a desktop and Webmail client. If a user adds a new appointment (task) or contact while using Outlook or Webmail, the data will be automatically synchronised between the applications. Autoresponders	-	5	10	Email Autoresponders allows an email address on your account to automatically respond with a specific message.
Mailing Lists	-	5	10	Email Mailing Lists allow you to have a simple form on your website with which your users can subscribe or unsubscribe their email address. You can then send an email to all members of the list using our simple system.
Junk Mail Filters	-	-		Junk Mail Filters use special technology to strip out junk mail before you receive it. This feature also allows you to set an address to send the junk mail to so that you can check this address to ensure that only junk mail is being caught.
Email Filter Logs	-	-		Email Filter Logs allow you to send logs of your (junk mail) email filter activity, once a week, to any email address you choose.

Google Sitemaps Generator	-	-		Having your website listed in Google is vital. Google has a special tool called Google Sitemaps which generates a list of all the files on your website and sends them to Google. This allows Google to ensure it finds all of your web pages and files. The software to generate a Sitemap is quite complicated but we have made it really easy by integrating the software into our Customer Control Panel. We would recommend everyone generates a Google sitemap and then re-generates it every time their site is updated.

Multiple 10GB connections to the Internet				Our network is based on 10 gigabit technology, which means that it runs at a speed of 10 Gb per second - most web hosting networks are limited to much less.
10 Gigabit Network				Rutland Web Service's network operates on industry-leading network equipment running at 10 Gigabit per second speeds. Our network also utilises 100% CAT6 network cable, which contains four pairs of copper wire and, unlike CAT5, utilises all four pairs. Load Balanced Storage Systems
Redundant Data Backup				Our network arrays operate RAID, a way of configuring a system so a disk can fail with no impact to data. We also operate our network arrays in mirrored pairs so a whole array can fail with no impact. Each array is also backed up each night to a separate backup cluster which is then written to tape and stored offsite. Our backup procedure goes above and beyond the majority of web hosting companies.
Redundant Power Feeds				Each rack has 2 independent power feeds, fed from 2 diverse connections to the national grid. Should one or both of these feeds fail 4 x 300kVA Riello UPS (N+1) battery backup systems will cover immediate power requirements. All power to the cabinets is supplied via the UPS to maintain clean supply to the servers.
Redundant Uninteruptable Power Feeds
Redunant Standby Generators				If mains power is not restored within 10 seconds 3 x N+1 diesel powered generators will start providing full continuous power to the data centre.Spare fuel for the generators is stored on-site and contracts are in place with fuel companies to deliver continuous emergency fuel for a virtually unlimited amount of time.
Redunant Cooling Systems				The data centre is fully climate controlled with N+1 Stultz DX Cybercool Air Conditioning Systems. The system monitors and controls the temperature and humidity levels. Drip sensors located below floor monitor for any leaks in the system. Cold air is forced underneath raised flooring into the bottom of each server rack, and vacuumed out of the top providing maximum cooling efficiency. The position of each server rack/apparatus is calculated by a dedicated deployment team to further optimise cooling efficiency.

Fire Supression				Fire protection is provided by the FM200 Fire Suppression System which fills the sealed data centre with gas to extinguish any fire quickly without the use of water and without damage to any equipment.
CCTV and SmartCard Access				The data centre is monitored by cctv both externally and internally. All CCTV images are recorded and stored for 3 months. Secure Fence - the building is surrounded by a 8ft perimeter fence. gates are locked outside of normal business hours. Secure Fob Access - there are two locking doors to go through for access to each of the separate data halls within DC2. These are locked and can only be opened using Secure Fobs which are only held by named staff.
